Vegetable Based Protein Shakes

VEGETABLE BASED PROTEIN SHAKES! I know what you are thinking… vegetables in protein shakes… YUCK! Well, all I will say is “Don’t knock it until you have tried it!” As a nation and all around the world, we throw away a large amount of vegetables – as well as fruit! These two recipes will hopefully ensure that you no longer throw unused fruit and vegetables away but instead freeze them and add them to one of these shakes at a later date. This will not only save you money, lower household wastage but also get a lot of additional nutrients into your diet… Give them a try!


Cucumber Mint Chocolate

  • 1 Scoop of Chocolate and Mint Whey Protein
  • 200ml of Water, Semi-Skimmed or other Milk
  • 75g of Cucumber
  • 1/2 tsp Green Tea Powder (optional)

Butternut Squash and Vanilla

Cooked butternut squash, pumpkin or sweet potato works really well in this recipe. Those ingredients all freeze well and depending on the levels of liquid you add, it can be made into a really thick milkshake consistency which is similar to ice-cream.

  • 1 Scoop Vanilla Whey Protein
  • 100g Frozen Cooked Butternut Squash/Pumpkin/Sweet Potato (or mix all 3)
  • 200ml of Water, Semi-Skimmed or other Milk
  • 1/2 – 1 tsp of Cinnamon (Optional)
  • 2 tsp Ground Flax Seeds (Optional)
  • 1 Teaspoon of Maca (Optional)

Blend them up and enjoy!
